The Premier League may be on suspension but the thrill is not over yet for Manchester United as the club released a shortlist for its monthly award.

Nigerian international, Odion Ighalo, has been nominated for the player of the month award for March, after only joining Manchester United on deadline day of the January transfer window from China

Ighalo has scored four goals in three starts for the Reds, including a brace against Derby County at the FA Cup and a sublime strike in the Europa League as United destroyed LASK 5-0 away from home.

The 30-year-old faces stiff competition from fellow January signing, Bruno Fernandes, who recently won the League's player of the month for February.

Also joining the shortlist are club captain, Harry Maguire and Brazilian star, Fred.

Odion is still waiting for his first Premier League goal – he came agonisingly close to the winner in his short cameo against Everton – but he was superb when coming off the bench in the final minutes of the Manchester derby.

The ex-Watford striker who has been a boyhood Manchester United fan has quickly become a fan favourite in his short period, so far, at Old Trafford.

He will be looking to hit the ground running with this monthly award in his first few weeks playing for the club.

The player of the month poll is set to close on Saturday, when the winner will be announced, according to Manutd.com

MyNigeria.com believes that Ighalo could still be nominated for the Reds' goal of the month award for his thunderous strike against LASK.
