CAF picks two Nigerian refs for CHAN

The Confederation of African Football has named two Nigerian referees to officiate at the forthcoming African Nations Championship, scheduled for January 16 to February 7 in Cameroon, The Punch reports.

The referees' committee named Samuel Pwadutakam as an assistant referee, while Mimisen Lyorhe was listed as one of three women assistant referees for the tournament.

This move confirms CAF’s decision to include female referees in the men’s competition.

According to a statement from CAF, 19 referees, 20 assistant referees and eight video assistant referees were selected for this first major competition under the COVID-19 era.

The selection of the final group of referees was made on the basis of their physical and athletic skills, as well as their understanding of football including their ability to read the game.

The tournament’s opening match between hosts Cameroon and Zimbabwe will take place on January 16 at Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde.
