Northern leaders to be blamed for poverty in the region - Shehu Sani

Former senator representing Kaduna Central has blamed the rising level of poverty in the North on the failure of the leaders of the region.

This is coming after Governor Abdullahi Ganduje banned street begging in Kano State.

Sani via a series of tweets stated that banning begging can't generate any result because the hell that gave rise to the act still exists.

In a statement issued on Friday, Shehu Sani said, “Begging in the Northern part of Nigeria is a direct result of poverty, neglect, social, cultural and religious factors.

“The Northern political leaders should understand that it is impossible to compose a paradise without beggars in a hell they created over the years. Beggars are tragic victims and direct result of a nation failed by its successive governing elites. You can’t end begging without ending poverty and illiteracy.

“You can arrest beggars but you can’t end begging as long as the social, cultural, political and economic factors that contribute to begging exist.” he explained.
