Man dies after Keystone bank building collapsed in Lagos

At least one person has reportedly died when a building belonging to one of Nigeria's top financial institutions, Keystone Bank, collapsed in the Palm Groove area of Lagos.

Reports revealed that the deceased was one of the labourers working on the renovation of the building.

It was gathered that some other labourers got trapped in the building that collapsed at 07.20 pm although it is unclear what caused the collapse.

The Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident and added that efforts were ongoing to rescue the remaining victims.

He revealed that the rescue mission is a joint effort of emergency responders, including officials of the Lagos State Fire Service, men of the Nigeria Police Force, among others.

He said, “Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that a single-storey building belonging to the Keystone Bank collapsed while being renovated.

“It was reported that a single male labourer lost his life from the incident.

“Recovery operation ongoing.

“LRT, LASG fire, LABSCA and police are at the scene carrying out joint efforts to retrieve the remains of the victims.”
