Former Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi has died at the age of 70 as a result of COVID-19 complications.

Recall that Ajimobi was hospitalized on June 2, 2020, and was supposedly in a critical condition at First Cardiology Hospital.

Rumours of his death went viral about a week ago but a source close to the family debunked the rumours, claiming that he was alive.

A source close to the family said the former governor had diabetes and other ailments.

“It is true that Ajimobi gave up the ghost some hours ago,” he said.

Recall that the All Progressives Congress' National Working Committee appointed Ajimobi as the party's Acting National Chairman but the party named an interim head due to his unavailability.

He ruled Oyo State for eight years before he was appointed by Adams Oshiomhole as the Deputy National Chairman (South-West) of APC.

Ajimobi was a former Managing director at the National Oil and Chemical Marketing Company, a subsidiary of Shell Petroleum Company.

MyNigeria.com gathered that the late Chief of Staff to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari(retd), Abba Kyari, both died at the same hospital.
