Okezie Ikpeazu, Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Abia State Governor

The Abia State Government has said that it has received information on a planned movement of almajiri children into the state.

This is coming a few days after the Kano State Government deported almajiri children to their states of origin to curb the spread of coronavirus.

John Okiyi Kalu, the Abia State Commissioner for Information, issued a statement revealing the directive given by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to authorities concerning the information on the movement of almajiri children.

The governor "directed that men and officers of the State Homeland Security Ministry be deployed immediately to relevant inter-state boundary communities to ensure there is no unauthorized entry”.

“All necessary lawful measures must be taken to stop the entry of not only the Almajiris but also other unlawful migrants into the state till the FG-backed inter-state border closure regulation put in place to control the spread of COVID-19 from one state to another is lifted”.
